MENCIK BABA DERVISH LODGE in TARSUS



Mencik Baba, originally from Horasan, moved to Tarsus leaving what is known as the 'Uc-Ok' peoples who were a sub group of the Varsak Turkic Peoples. In order to help shelter other Turkmen who had moved from the Middle Asian regions, he shifted to Tarsus and set up a small Dervish Lodge. In doing so he set up a place where schotars who had moved from those regions earlier where abte to practice their arts. The Tomb, which is located in the Tekke District, can be visited due the restoration efforts of the Tarsus city council. It is situated in a courtyard on a scuare plan (9.5 by 9.5). The entrance is set into its western facing wall, the other three containing small windows.
